Meet Susan Coutinho, Infection Prevention and Control Nurse at NSFT Can you tell me, in your own words, about your cultural background and where your family originates from? I was born and raised in Bombay (Mumbai) and my culture is an amalgam of both Mangalorean and interestingly also Goan influence as we share not only ancestry but also cuisine, few traditions etc. My family originates from the very distinct Latin Catholic community in Mangalore, from where they migrated to Bombay somewhere in the 18th century and surrounding cities on the western coast. What is a tradition you hold dear, and why is it important to you?Well, for me, it is the Roce, a tradition among Bombay – Mangalorean Christians where the bride and groom are anointed with coconut milk before the nuptials, also known as the last bath for the bride in her parent’s home, before she walks down the aisle….
