Food Waste

We want to help families reduce their food waste.

Food waste is a real problem.

It’s bad news for the environment and it’s bad news for your wallet.

The Facts

According to WRAP (The Waste and Resources Action Programme), UK households waste around 4.5million tonnes of food every year that could have been eaten. This equates to about £60 per month of wasted food for an average family with children.

Each UK household wastes on average the equivalent of 8 meals per week, which is around 10billion edible meals each year wasted in the UK alone. The carbon associated with this food waste is equivalent to that generated by one in five cars on the roads!

FiveDinners can help…

By using our meal planning service, changing the serving size of each meal according to the number of people you are cooking for and using the automated shopping list enabling you to buy only the ingredients needed for the week – you will notice a reduction in food waste as a household.

You will no longer be buying surplus items at the supermarket or throwing away mouldy vegetables from the fridge well past their use by date. Instead, by using our meal planner and shopping list, you will only buy the items you need, and you will use them all up.

Let’s try to combat food waste together.
