Household Food Waste 2

Tips and Tricks to reduce your food to save money and the planet!

Meal Plan – use your FiveDinners meal plan so you know what you’re having all week – leave weekends as “flex” nights for leftovers. (Displaced meals are a top driver of waste.)

Shopping list – use your FiveDinners shopping list to only buy what you need and stop impulse purchases! Check what you already have in your fridge or obvious swaps to avoid buying more

Use by or Best Before Dates – Use by = safety (don’t eat after), Best before = quality (often fine after). Use the sniff test – your body is amazing at telling you if it’s not good to eat…

Freeze – love your freezer: Freeze bread in half-loaves, portion meat/fish on arrival and freeze portions for another day. Label with date + contents.

First-In, First-Out (FIFO) – unpack groceries and rotate older items forward. A clear “use-up” tub in the fridge keeps odds and ends from getting lost.

Use them up! Tired veg are great in soups, curries or just to chop up and add to almost any dish..
